30 Years in the Events Industry – And I Still Get the Same Buzz
After more than 30 years working in the events and entertainment industry, one thing has never changed for me — the feeling just before the guests arrive.
The room is set, the equipment is ready, the team is prepared, and there is that quiet moment before everything begins. Then the first guests walk in, the atmosphere builds, the room starts to buzz with energy… and the event comes alive.
Even after three decades, that feeling never goes away.
Events Are About Experience
One of the biggest lessons I have learned over the years is that successful events are not about the equipment alone. Anyone can supply tables, props or technology.
What truly makes an event memorable is the experience created for the guests.
That comes from:
skilled and friendly staff
understanding the flow of the event
creating interaction and atmosphere
making guests feel comfortable joining in and having fun.
Whether the entertainment uses cutting-edge technology or simple interactive games, the real magic comes from how people engage with it.
Every Event Matters
One rule has guided me throughout my career:
Every event deserves the very best we can deliver.
It doesn’t matter whether the event is a large corporate awards night with hundreds of guests or a smaller private celebration. Every client deserves the same attention to detail, professionalism and care.
Guests don’t know what the client paid for the entertainment — they only remember how the event made them feel.
If the room is buzzing with energy, people are laughing, interacting and enjoying themselves, then the event has succeeded.
The Moment I Look For
For me, the most satisfying moment in any event is when the room starts to come alive.
You can see it happen:
guests gathering around the entertainment
laughter spreading across the room
people who were strangers at the start of the night now chatting and enjoying the experience together.
When that happens, you know the event is working exactly as it should.
The Long Road Home
At the end of the night, when the guests leave smiling and the room slowly empties, the real work begins again.
Equipment is packed away, vans are loaded, and there is often a long drive home before doing it all again the next day.
But there is always a sense of pride knowing you helped create a memorable evening for the client and their guests.
Tomorrow will bring a new venue, a new room full of people we have never met before — and another opportunity to create an unforgettable event.
And After 30 Years…
That feeling of anticipation before the first guest arrives still feels exactly the same as it did when I started.
And that’s probably the reason I’m still doing it today.
Because when the room starts buzzing with energy, there really is nothing quite like it.
