Corporate Games Night at Cottons Hotel, Knutsford – Team Building with a Competitive Twist

What happens when you take a group of colleagues, split them into teams and add Giant Connect Four, Table Football, Skittle Alley, Cornhole, Axe Throwing and a little friendly competition?

You get a Great Games Night Challenge – and this recent corporate event at Cottons Hotel & Spa in Knutsford, Cheshire certainly brought out everyone’s competitive side!

HR Entertainment supplied and hosted the evening for a regular client, creating an interactive team entertainment experience designed to get everyone involved, talking, laughing and competing together.

Six Teams. Five Rounds. One Winning Team.

Guests were divided into six teams, A to F, before competing head-to-head through five rounds of games.

The competition games included:

  • Giant Connect Four
  • Table Football
  • Skittle Alley
  • Table Skittles
  • Cornhole
  • Axe Throwing Challenge

Teams earned points throughout the evening, with 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss.

That simple league format made a huge difference. Rather than people playing a game for a few minutes and wandering away, suddenly every match mattered.

There were tactics. There was encouragement from teammates. There was the occasional questionable claim to sporting brilliance – and, most importantly, there was plenty of laughter.

Corporate Team Building That Doesn’t Feel Like Team Building

One of the best things about a Games Night Challenge is that it works as corporate team building without feeling forced.

There are no lengthy presentations or awkward exercises.

Instead, people naturally start talking to colleagues they may not normally spend much time with. Teams encourage one another, personalities come out and the competitive element quickly gets everybody involved.

Some guests become determined to win.

Others discover previously unknown talents at Table Football or Giant Connect Four.

And some simply enjoy reminding their colleagues about the shot, throw or move that cost them the match!

That’s exactly the atmosphere we want to create.

Games for Everyone

Alongside the organised competition, we also supplied additional games for guests to enjoy more casually.

These included games such as Giant KerPlunk and other traditional and oversized pub-style games, giving people something to play between competitive rounds and allowing the entertainment to continue throughout the evening.

The mixture of organised competition and informal free play worked particularly well.

Guests could be completely involved in the tournament one minute and then challenge somebody to another game simply for fun the next.

And Then Came the Final…

After the league rounds, the leading teams battled it out for the overall title.

Medals and prizes awaited the winners, but by this point something arguably more important had happened: the whole room had become involved.

That is what makes this type of entertainment so effective for company parties, conferences, staff events and corporate away days.

You don’t simply hire some games.

You create an event around them.
