Race Night at Heywood Bowling Club Raises the Roof for Local Charities
100+ guests, eight exciting races and a fantastic community atmosphere in Heywood
It was brilliant to bring race night entertainment back to Heywood Bowling Club for what was their first race night in many years — and judging by the atmosphere in the room, hopefully not the last!
More than 100 guests came together for an exciting family evening supporting local charities and good causes, with the clubhouse packed from the very first race.
From the moment the racing started, everyone became involved. Race cards were studied, horses were chosen, friendly rivalries developed between tables and the room quickly filled with cheers, laughter and plenty of encouragement as each race reached the finishing line.
And that is exactly what a good race night should do.
It isn’t simply about watching horse races on a screen. It creates an interactive evening where families, friends, club members and colleagues all become part of the entertainment.
Eight races and an Auction Race finale
The evening featured eight horse races, building towards the traditional Auction Race for Race Eight.
The Auction Race makes a brilliant finale because guests can bid for ownership of the horses before the final race. Suddenly the stakes — and the friendly competition — feel even bigger!
Once the horses have their new owners, everybody gathers around for one final race and a suitably lively end to the evening.
With more than 100 people attending, Heywood Bowling Club had exactly the sort of bustling atmosphere that makes this style of entertainment work so well.
Race nights are made for clubs and charity fundraising
Race nights remain one of our favourite forms of fundraising entertainment because practically everybody can join in.
They work particularly well for:
Bowling clubs, football clubs and sports clubs • charities and community organisations • schools and PTAs • social clubs • fundraising committees • corporate charity evenings • team events • awards evenings and company socials.
The format is easy for guests to understand, entertaining throughout the evening and can help organisers raise money through race sponsorship, horse sponsorship, ticket sales, fundraising games and the final Auction Race.
And because the evening is hosted and professionally presented, organisers can concentrate on their guests rather than worrying about operating all the entertainment themselves.
A brilliant family and community evening
One of the nicest things about this particular event was the mix of people attending.
It wasn’t an evening aimed at one particular age group. Families, friends and club members could all enjoy it together, which helped create that genuine community-event feeling.
There were people cheering on their horses, laughing with neighbouring tables and enjoying the anticipation as each race approached the finish.
For many guests it was their first experience of one of our race nights — and for Heywood Bowling Club it had been many years since they had staged one.
The feedback and atmosphere were so positive that there is already talk of turning it into an annual event.
We’d certainly be delighted to return!
